Bad back pain!
need some advice please people.....

was moving boxes of stuff yesterday. went to pick up a box, not heavy, and BANG!

unbelievable pain right in spine in lower back.
I'm talking real bad. went down and couldn't move.

laid still for a while and was eventually able to get up just about, but it's still bad.

constant dull pain and then, every now and then, i'll move 'wrong' and SEVERE bolt of pain in same place!

I clearly need to see someone urgently this morning, but never had back problem before, so I have no idea what to do.

what's the difference between an osteopath/chiropractor/physio......and which should I be heading for?

what's the differenc

Re: BAD BACK PAIN!
Physio is muscle pain, osteo is discs and bones I believe, Chiro is a no go according to my Dr and physio

Re: BAD BACK PAIN!
Had several episodes like this some years ago. Severe lower back pain when doing something quite mundane.

I would suggest taking some anti-inflammatory tablets and resting. It will be OK after a few days. Never found any medical intervention helped or was necessary.

Re: BAD BACK PAIN!
Doctor.

Anything else will cost you.

Rest, hot and cold treatment and painkillers is what you need in the first instance.

Osteopath and Chiropractor will cost you, whereas doctor will refer you to Physio.

If you're too desperate to wait and we if the rest/hot cold treatment works then I'd advise Osteopath, mine is excellent but don't expect a quick fix

Re: BAD BACK PAIN!
Physio can help depending on what it is. But easy for me to say as my mate who lives round the corner is a physio and it's free. But yes anti inflammatory is a good start.

Re: BAD BACK PAIN!
I had this at Christmas, could barely walk. Went to an osteopath and might as well have stayed at home. Then I had a deep tissue massage which was fantastic, didn't cure it though but made it feel a lot better while she did it. Ultimately though, if yours is muscular like mine, only time will sort it out. Then you need to lose some weight you fat bastard or it will keep happening.

Re: BAD BACK PAIN!
And yeah, it does cost, but the pain I was in I'd have given someone the keys to my house to sort it out.

Ibuprofen suppositories are your friend. Go and see your GP. They might have a better knowledge than us cunts on here.

Re: BAD BACK PAIN!
I dont know of anybody with a back problem that has had it cured.
You just have to manage it as best you can. I did mine about 5 yrs ago and still gives me a twinge now and again when i neglect the stretching exercises.

Its a bastard.

Go to the doctor then at least your drugs will be cheaper on prescription. Voltorol (Diclafenic) is the one for me and is now only available on prescription.

Re: BAD BACK PAIN!
first of all go to hospital and have an x-ray

chances are its a sprain or a slipped disc

if its a sprain i'd go to a physio
slipped disc is more rest and then physio

i found dry needling really helped when i sprained my back but what ever you do take it easy and if its not getting better have a MRI scan and that will tell you exactly whats wrong

Re: BAD BACK PAIN!
Jonsey,

Too much oral Ibuprofen can give you a stomach ulcer, plus this way, you get to stick something bullet shaped up your arse.

Win-win.

Re: BAD BACK PAIN!
Go to the doctor and see what they say - it could be any number of things.
Avoid chiropractors and osteopaths like the plague - I did my back a few years ago (torn muscles that twanged nerves) and was almost crippled by an osteopath.
The agony you get after moving wrong sounds like back spasms - they fucking hurt,

Sadly worm is right. Did mine 20 years ago and every now and then it just goes for no reason, might be walking down stairs or brushing teeth, just bam!

Got it bad at moment so I feel for you.

I have a mate who gets prescribed morphine tablets so he is helping me out at the moment

Don't worry Ted will be along soon to help with this but in the mean time...hot water bottle 10mins then ice pack 10mins and try and keep mobile.

Re: BAD BACK PAIN!
Chiropractors are completely unregulated/unqualified con artists

Osteopaths are only slightly better

Dr and Physio is your route
